Rebuilt homes after hurricane in Malawi: a story of faith and transformation

"Then He said to His disciples, 'The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. So pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

The following story of faith and transformation was shared by one of our workers in Malawi.

Minusa and Angela were typical Muslims. His father was the senior Sheikh, an Islamic leader. They married under the influence of Minusa’s parents, who saw Angela as a potential wife for their son. They proceeded to propose to Angela and Angela’s parents for their son while he was working in South Africa. I met this family while conducting a Discovery Bible Study when they visited their cousin, who happened to be our host for the study. They joined us, we prayed together and they invited us to visit their home too.

Unexpectedly injured, Minusa was hospitalized, where I met Kendram, the clinical doctor. Minusa introduced me to the doctor as a missionary, and we discussed spiritual matters. We arranged to pray together online and by phone. While Minusa received medical attention, we discussed the damage their house suffered due to the hurricane. Devastated by the hurricane, they became homeless and were forced to sleep outside. Through God’s grace, a new house for Minusa and Angela was constructed in two months with the help of skilled professionals from our ministry who volunteered their time. Subsequently, the family embarked on their journey of faith and accepted Christ as their Savior.

Homes rebuild after the hurricane

When hurricane Freddy hit many areas last year, especially in the Southern district of Malawi, our hearts went out to the community. The area is filled with both grass-thatched huts and iron-sheet houses. Through the hurricane many homes were destroyed. The people living in these villages are extremely poor, with little hope for assistance, even from the government. Through the help of All Nations we could houses, provide food and foster community development. This has been instrumental in leading people to accept Jesus Christ. This project provided relief to over 200 people affected by Hurricane Freddy in Malawi. 100 people received food and 28 houses were constructed with the involvement of local residents.

The picture above shows how a temporary shelter of a homeless man using pieces of wood and plastic sheeting. To stay warm at night, he built fires, which caused neighbors to complain. Now he has a new house!

The relief efforts strengthened relationships within the community and created opportunities for spiritual growth. Several people converted to Christianity, and new Bible study groups were formed. The project opened doors to reach the previously inaccessible Yao people group.
